Born in Korea, Joo received her BFA and MFA from Hongik University in Seoul before moving to New York in 1993. At the School of Visual Arts Graduate School, she explored installation and video art, experiences that continue to inform the spatial and re ective qualities of her practice. After working professionally in fashion design as a CAD designer, she returned fully to her own artwork. Since 2010, Joo has been creating paintings on mirrors, using the medium as both material and metaphor to examine themes of identity, memory, and self-re ection. She has exhibited her work in solo and selected group exhibitions in Korea, New York, and New Jersey.
