Min Kim has a BFA from Ewha Womans University, a Master of Science from Pratt Institute, and formal training in Korean traditional painting, so she bridges classical techniques with contemporary themes. She currently serves as the Director of the Minhwa Division at the Korean New York Artist Association and teaches Korean folk art through various workshops and cultural institutions in both Korea and the U.S.
Her painting Tiger Stepping Out of His Cage reimagines the iconic tiger motif found in traditional Minhwa with bold energy and emotion. Against a striking red backdrop, the tiger’s expressive eyes and poised stance suggest not only movement but liberation—symbolizing strength, awakening, and perhaps the reclaiming of one’s true nature.
