Rokan Kim is a South Korean artist working across media art, painting, and installation. Using collage and video compositing techniques, he creates surreal visual narratives that combine social and cultural phenomena of the 1960s and 1970s with his own personal experiences. His work focuses on the dualities inherent in human life and society, such as good and evil, optimism and pessimism, beauty and fear, exploring how the same event or phenomenon can be interpreted differently depending on individual experience and perspective.

His representative series, Space Oddity, examines the contrasting realities of an astronaut’s life as well as the beauty and fear associated with outer space. In Sea the Wall, Kim explores the complex and often contradictory relationships among the sea, architecture, and humanity. Through these works, he invites viewers to move beyond a single interpretation and experience multiple perspectives within the same image or narrative. By combining familiar imagery with unexpected environments, Kim creates immersive visual worlds that encourage reflection on the contradictions and complexities of contemporary life.
